The Director of the Water and Soil Environmental Research Institute, College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, University of Tehran, has announced the establishment of the "Saline Water Engineering and Technology" program. The primary objective of this initiative is to advance knowledge and technologies related to the utilization of unconventional water resources to bolster the nation's food security.

According to a report by Fars News Agency, citing IRIB News, Dr. Abdolmajid Liaghat, Director of the Water and Soil Environmental Research Institute, expressed grave concern over the declining groundwater levels in Alborz Province. He noted that approximately 30 years ago, the groundwater level in the vicinity of the College was at a depth of 75 meters; however, it has now plummeted to around 200 meters. He added that just last year, one of the facility's wells was taken out of service due to a significant drop in the water level. This trend indicates that the province's aquifers are under severe stress, and if the current situation persists, there is a heightened risk of land subsidence and the emergence of serious crises.
